Featured Nutrient: Vitamin C

I’d like to take a brief moment to highlight a very special nutrient, vitamin C.

I’m sure you have all heard of it, but how much do you really know about this popular supplement? You probably know that it stimulates the immune system to help prevent and fight infections and diseases, and that you can find it in citrus fruit.

But did you also know that it can help fight stress, boost metabolism and fight fatigue? Or that vitamin C can reduce allergic reactions by decreasing histamine? Did you know that it can speed up wound healing? Reduce inflammation? Help you absorb iron? Improve the utilization of blood sugar and help prevent cataracts or glaucoma? Vitamin C is also necessary to produce and maintain healthy collagen found in your joints, skin, ligaments, vertebral discs, bones, teeth and joint linings? It can also help with male infertility caused by clumping sperm. All of this is only a fraction of the super powers that vitamin C has. Vitamin C sure is special, eh? Well yes it is. Just like all of its other vitamin and mineral friends found in whole foods.

So there it is. A brief and friendly reminder of how powerful all the substances in whole, natural foods are and how by eating freshly prepared, real food you can live a long, healthy, energized and happy life. (Find a pill for all that I dare you!)

Great sources of Vitamin C include:

citrus fruit, green peppers, broccoli, brussels sprouts, parsley, papayas, strawberries, cabbage and dark green leafy vegetables. (raw or steamed is best!)
